CLYDE WHITTAKER

 

Funeral services for Clyde Whittaker, Age 93, will be conducted, Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Bro. Gary Welch will officiate and interment will follow in the Welch Memorial Cemetery.  Mr. Whittaker passed away peacefully on September 21, 2017.  Clyde was an extraordinary husband, father, and grandfather.  His impressive professional credentials included  a WWII Veteran, researcher at the Navy Mine Defense Laboratory in Panama City, Florida (1951), named in “Who’s Who” of scientists in America (1956), a member of the U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Agency, Pershing and Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (1960), named “Pioneer of Cape Canaveral Missile Space Range” from Bumper to Apollo (1961), joined NASA Houston Texas Manned Flight Center Apollo Planning Board (1962), returned to Brevard County to work on NASA Gemini, Skylab, and Apollo Shuttle (1963), technical advisor to the Apollo I Accident Investigation Board (1964).  He retired from NASA in 1979. Clyde is survived by his beloved and beautiful wife, Pearl Hulse Whittaker, his sons Kenneth Whittaker (Elizabeth) and Craig Whittaker (Annette); grandchildren Jessica Selbert (Logan) and Jarrod Whittaker.  Clyde also leaves behind his devoted extended family who he dearly loved; Daniel Vaughn (Alice), Joann Magri (Andrea), Kenneth Vaughn (Gail), Janice Rodighiero, Virginia Levey (Dean). He was preceded in death by his first wife of over 50 years, Ellen Bilbrey Whittaker. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to Clyde’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017, from12:00 PM till time of services at 2:00 PM at Goff Funeral Home.

She Never Married And Had No Children As She Was Much Too Busy Exploring The World, Living Life To The Fullest, And Looking For That Perfect Husband. "Auntie Mame" As She Came To Be Known, Lived The High Life Of Hotels, Shopping Trips, And Parties While Always Looking Like A "Million Dollars". Harlon Thompson, Rev. Dow Allen, Rev. Frank Davis, And Rev. David Harris Officiated. Interment Was In The Frost Cemetery, 1085 Sparta Drive, Crossville, Tennessee, On Tuesday, August 15, 2017, At 11:00 AM. Rev. Padgett Was Born To A Large Family On June 19, 1931, To The Late Burt And Ethel Bilbrey Padgett Who Resided In Obey City, Tennessee, In Overton County. Rev. Padgett Passed Away On Friday, August 11, 2017, At Cumberland House Hospice In Crossville, Tennessee. He Was A Freewill Baptist Minister. He Started Preaching At The Age Of 17 And Through His Life Preached At Churches All Across The Upper Cumberland Until 1998. He Worked At Turner Roofing In Crossville For 39 Years. He Is Survived By His Wife Who He Married On November 21, 1956, Jessie McCoy Padgett Of Crossville, TN; 2 Daughters, And Sons-In Law, Beverley And Stanley Marion Of Manchester, TN, Debra And Philip Jett Of Maryville, TN; Grandson, Max Jett Of Maryville, TN; 2 Sisters, Vanella Whitaker Of Anderson, IN, Married To The Late Bobby Whitaker, Norene Married To J.C. Jernigan Of Goodlettsville, TN; And A Number Of Nieces, Nephews, And An Unknown Number Of Friends. In Addition To His Parents, He Was Preceded In Death By His Many Siblings, Laura Married To Horace Ramsey, Early Married To Earlene Murphy, Opal Married To Earl White, Nobel Married To Joe Snavely, Mabel Married To Richard Day, Mazel Married To John McGowan.
