In 2014, Richard and Karen were honored to meet the family of his heart donor. He was humbled by the gift he was given and felt an immediate connection with the family. They became close and remained in regular contact for the remainder of his life. Richard and his family wish to acknowledge and honor the life of Frank Butch Sr. and his loving family. Gipson.jpg

JAMES WILLIAM "JAMIE" GIPSON

James William "Jamie" Gipson, age 61, of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed from this life on Monday, June 22, 2020, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center surrounded by loved ones, as his soul was welcomed into Heaven. Mr. Gipson was born on October 2, 1958, in Anderson, Indiana, to the late Charles and Marjorie (Ray) Gipson of Crawford, Tennessee. He graduated from Rickman High School in 1976 and married the love of his life, Regina, in 1983. He was a small business owner and entrepreneur, specializing in horticulture and landscaping. For the past 12 years, one could often find him doing whatever the hell he wanted to do, which often included watching his son work on cars, dirt bikes, or four-wheelers, bragging about his kids, watching his grandchildren play outside, and playing guitar with his friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Regina Kay (Farris) Gipson of Cookeville, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Shawn William Gipson and Candy Brown of Cookeville, Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Tyson Matheney of Cookeville, Tennessee; and daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Daniel Norton of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Mr. Gipson was blessed with several precious grandchildren who will miss him dearly: Cecilia Anniston Gipson, Sarah Annette Uselton, Shawn Levi Gipson, Zoey Lynn Gipson, Lilly Grace Cooper, Thomas Lane Matheney, Noah Gage Norton, the future William James Norton, and newcomers: Harley, Layla, and Alissa Pollard. Additionally, he leaves behind a dear sister, Barbara (Gipson) Lawson; an adored brother, Larry Gipson; much-loved nieces and nephews, (Amy Farley, Michael Lawson, Michelle Taylor, Eric Gipson, and Kevin Gipson); and a slew of cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Hallie (Ledbetter) Ray; paternal grandparents, Charlie and Nellie (Copeland) Gipson; beloved sister, Carolyn (Gipson) Clay; admired brother-in-law, Lonnie Lawson; and several other close family members and friends. He loved his neighborhood family immensely, probably more than some of his actual relatives (except you, Phil...he didn't like you)...so...the family would like to thank the following people for tolerating his larger-than-life personality and making the last 30 years of his life exceptionally memorable by becoming his extended family: Dan and Andy Thacker (neighborhood sons); Brandy Davis (neighborhood daughter); Steve Strader and family; Johnny and Carol Maddux; and the Lamale family. He was a loving and caring man who loved all things green, music, comedy, Coca-Cola, Honda motorcycles and his family. His proudest accomplishment was, with the help of his wife, raising three awesome children, who in turn gifted them several "cool" grandchildren. He was a dedicated husband, doting father and loving grandpa. He was hilarious. We believe he coined the phrase, "Homie don't play that", but we have no actual proof of this. He will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family request you pray more often, be grateful for what you have, take your family on vacation, make amends with family and friends (because life is too short), don't knock marijuana until you try it, buy your kid a dirt bike, take care of your mind and body, use the words "I love you" more often, and when in doubt, use sarcasm. We would be remiss if we didn't mention his love for his homies on the mountain, at the 19th Hole and Cathy, at Buck Mountain Market, who often cooked breakfast for him. Much love. Special thanks to the nurses and physician at Livingston Regional Hospital, Overton County EMS, CRMC Physicians, nurses, respiratory staff, and family friend, Margaret (Cooper) Ledbetter, for taking care of our dad. His wishes of cremation are being honored with a Celebration of Life service to be held at a later date. Arrangements And Care Provided By D.M. Goff Funeral Home, Inc., 205 East Cleveland Avenue, Monterey, Tennessee 38574, Phone 931.839.2311.
